"Disconnected Channels" screen prints on paper 2022
In this work I question my understanding of home. After living in the Middle East for a year, I have a sense of changing perspectives as to what home looks like. The quintessential American home is distorted in halftone pixels and interrupted by posterized imagery of Middle Eastern architecture. Together the layers create a static noise reminiscent of an early television gone “off air”. The composition further references the disconnected channel with CYMK static bars along the bottom and sides of the compositions. The images are sometimes flipped within the composition to suggest changing viewpoints.
This work is intended to raise awareness and self reflection of ideological viewpoints of home.
